Nora Raymond visits us in Malaysia, 19 - 25 September 2011
by Robert Tyabji, Shah Alam, September 2011
Indomitable, cheerful, independent, smart, savvy, sharp, chatty and talented are only some of the words I can muster to describe Leonora Raymond, mum Alice’s closest friend of over 60 years.
Still darting around the globe with hand-knitted shawls and walking stick, she arrived at our home in Shah Alam on her way to Mumbai from Sydney where she had joined us to celebrate Mum Alice's 100th birthday.
Nora ran a successful hair dressing salon for over 50 years in one the most fashionable districts of Bombay, and like the best hair stylists around the world, she provided a top-class service. Many of her rich and famous clients became her trusted friends and confidantes, and remain so to this day. She was Mum's best friend and her financial adviser as well.
Nora regaled us with innumerable stories and anecdotes of Bombay society, making the days she spent with us most entertaining and memorable.
