Robert & Hootoksi launch www.tyabji.net, March 2005

Robert Tyabji, Shah Alam, March 2005

In their quest for a better life, our forefathers left Yemen and Persia in small dhows, risking everything to make perilous ocean crossings to foreign shores...

The purpose of our website is to document and preserve the history of our families, and our life experiences, for the benefit of our children, grandchildren and future generations. We hope the website will also serve to promote closer ties with the Tyabji and Pundole extended families far and wide, across continents, oceans, and cultures.

Initially, the site was developed using the Mambo content management system (CMS). Michel and Rosa were visiting Malaysia at the time, and it was Rosa who did the initial work of registering the name at Godaddy and showing me the basics of working with the Mambo CMS. I continued to develop the site on Mambo until around 2018, using a Malaysian web host, until the owner of the host service terminated the business. While the website was not affected, I thought it prudent to move it to another server. Hootoksi and I had already decided to overhaul the site and I migrated it to the Joomla CMS platform (which was inherited from Mambo and used a similar interface), and continued working on it. The site is now hosted on a server in India. If I need help with sorting out stubborn technical issues, I engage Rahul Jain, a systems developer based in Vadodara (Baroda), who managed the details of migrating the site from my desktop (localhost) to the server.
