USA and Canada, 21 July - 29 September 2025
by Robert Tyabji
Hootoksi and I felt it was high time to visit our boys and grandchildren again and also participate in the family reunion that was to be held at Kershasp's lakehouse in Port Clinton, Ohio. We also wanted to visit our old friends Bob and Susan Crowley in Medford, Oregon.
Our itinerary:
21 July: Singapore Airlines: KUL-SIN, then SIN-LAX
20 August: Alaska Air: LAX-MED
23 August: Alaska Air: MED-LAX
23 July: United Airlines: LAX-CLE
09 August: United Airlines: CLE-LAX
27 August: Alaska Air: LAX-VAN
22 September: Ferry and drive (Adil's car) from Sunshine Coast to Seattle
28-29 September: Singapore Airlines SEA-SIN-KUL
We chose Singapore Airlines for its exceptional service, reliability, and it's the airline with the shortest flight time between KL and the US west coast, notwithstanding a two-hour stopover in Singapore.
Even so, the direct flight from Singapore to Los Angeles took 17 hours in spite of our airspeed which often exceeded 900 km/hr (the return was just over 15 hours, though). Michel met us at LAX and we drove directly to his home in Arleta. We were very pleased to see how he had cleaned out most of the debris left over from the previous owner in the large yard and garden behind the house. We were soon comfortably established in the guest bedroom. And it was lovely to be with Cianna again, so soon after Michel and her Malaysia visit in June.
