Oscar and Irmgard Hirsbrunner visit, 9 - 22 May 2010
Hootoksi Tyabji, Shah Alam, 9-22 May 2010
Irmgard was a volunteer at the UNICEF card shop in Dar es Salaam. One morning Rob went in and greeted her in perfect Swiss German. She almost fell off her chair and the rest is history! We became good friends and realized that we were neighbours living a stone’s throw from each other on the Old Bagamoyo Road!
Our dear friends are now retired in Switzerland and when we met up with them in their home in Brattelen in February, we invited them to visit Malaysia. They took us up on it and were with us for two weeks.
For Oscar & Irmgard, this was a trip down memory lane. They had lived in Malaysia for 12 years from the early 60’s onward. Two of their children were born here. Irmgard used to stroll with them in a pram across what is now the busy Federal Highway! Oscar worked with aluminum and was responsible for all the aluminum works on the National Mosque, the Parliament building and several other prominent structures all over the country.
Oscar insisted on spending a couple of days in the kitchen to instal aluminium dressing behind the sink!
We had a wonderful time together, laughing, eating, drinking and seeing the sights of Malaysia truly Asia!
